Abstract

Handwriting recognition is an elementary action performed by human beings due to their traditional five senses. However, computers don’t “think” and operate in the same way as humans. In this paper, a simple solution to this problem is provided using the Hausdorff distance. The used data consists of two sets of images: the first set is taken as a reference point used for comparison and consists of handwritten letters from the Macedonian alphabet, and the second set consists of separate letters of the word which is to be recognized and presented to the algorithm. The Hausdorff distance is used to find the closest resemblance between the letter to be recognized and the relevant letter from the reference set.
